A Message From The Commander
"Fall 2009"
During my tenure as commander of Post 25, I’ve only met a few of our 400+ members, because many of you have moved from this area and others rarely come to meetings or attend Post events. The members I have met put in a lot of time serving veterans and this Post. As commander of the Post, my goals have always been to bring the Post, Unit and SAL together as a “Legion Family” and fulfill our obligation to always help a veteran or their family in need.
This camaraderie was recently shown in the “Jailhouse Rock” Fund Raiser which was hosted by the Unit and SAL. This fundraiser came about due to a recent burglary at the Post during which the Post sustained damages and loss of money. Upon hearing of the burglary, the Unit and SAL began the fundraiser to help offset the loss of funds and monies needed to repair the damage. Special thanks go out to the chairpersons, Gloria Richards and Brian “Bubba” Smith and their committee for putting this event together in a very short period of time. The event was a HUGE success, attended by over 200 people from the community.
The individuals who burglarized the post did not steal from the Post, they stole from this community. The monies needed to repair the damage and replace lost funds takes away from our support of over 30 programs within our community, such as scholarships, Boys State, needy veterans and their families and returning wounded soldiers that we help.
I would also like to thank our members who maintain the beauty of the Post and its grounds. The Post has gone through recent renovations of the halls, bar and Pavilion which has contributed greatly to its attraction and status in the community.
We recently dedicated a “Soldier’s Cross” monument at Bill Thomson Park (the area on the corner of JFK Dr and Washington Ave), and the membership continues to maintain this park and make it a showcase in town. As anyone knows, when driving up to the Post the helicopter and this area stands out and is a recognized landmark.
As always, I am available to all members of the Legion Family on a 24/7 basis. I can always be contacted at 732-404-7445 and will address any issues or concerns promptly.
